My daughter, the young woman

Here's a 12x12 scrapbook page I made of my oldest daughter. She graduated last June, and this picture was taken just a couple weeks after graduation when we were camping. I love this picture of her, and how she looks so deep in thought.

I found the poem on http://www.scrapbook.com/ and thought it was so fitting for this picture! I copied it into Word and printed it out on White CS. If you click on the picture, you'll get a close-up to read the poem.

a RAK...and The Butterfly Story

I received this really pretty RAK today from my friend Janette (blessingsx3).
Janette, I absolutely love this!! I love the cool fold/closure, and the large Butterfly from Garden Whimsy is one of my favs.....especially done up with sparkle!

The first pic is the card all closed up, showing what it looks like from the front.

The second pic is what is looks like open. I'm sorry that I couldn't take a picture outside today. It was just too windy and the card kept falling over. I hope the picture captures what it looks like IRL, and you can really get an idea of how the closure works. The blue strip threads through the word window punch. Totally cool!

Whenever I see a butterfly....even on a card...I think of my "Nan" (grandmother) ...and it makes me smile.

Would you like to hear "The Butterfly Story"?? Okay, good...because I feel like sharing it. {smile} It's going to start off sad, but it has a really cool ending. So bear with me...

My Nan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. Unfortunately, it rapidly spread and she passed away not even a full year later in June of 1998....exactly one week before DH and I got married. In the state she was in, she wouldn't have been able to attend the wedding because she wouldn't have been able to leave the house. The wedding went on as planned. We had a really pretty outdoor ceremony in front of a gazebo....beautiful weather and all. In the receiving line, our friends Bill and Jeanne came up to congratulate us. They laughed and said that "what they saw" of our ceremony was beautiful, but they missed most of it because they were engrossed in watching a butterfly. They explained that just a few minutes into the ceremony, a butterfly flew up and landed on the man's shoulder who was sitting in front of them, and STAYED on the man's shoulder for the entire ceremony. They were totally engrossed in the fact that this butterfly just sat there until the ceremony ended, and then it flew away. We thought that was pretty cool. They moved on through the receiving line. The pastor's wife happened to be behind them and heard what was said about the butterfly. She said to us, "I heard the story your friends told you. That was your grandmother coming to see your wedding." {getting choked up}

The story gets even better though because in wedding video, you can see a butterfly flying around the gazebo in the beginning. I like to think it's that same butterfly.....and every time I see a butterfly now, it makes me think of my Nan.

Welcome for the Twins

My neighbor just had TWIN BOYS this past Thursday, so I made this card for her.

The image is called Squeaky Clean by Whipper Snapper Designs. I stamped the image once, then masked it and stamped again to get the two side-by-side tubs and babies. I added their names on the tubs too. The blue layer behind the main image is up on dimensionals.

There aren't a lot of bells and whistles on this one...just a simple card to welcome the boys, Henry and Wyatt.

A sketch, today's FS, and a thank you

Happy Sunday, everyone! I have to show you something my oldest daughter (aka "Peanut") drew up for me last night. She made me a picture of my screen name on SCS. How cool is that?? A bee....lounging on a peanut! I love the little smile on his face....kinda ornery, LOL!

Thank you, "Peanut." I LOVE it and I know you worked really hard on it. Your drawing talent amazes me! Mwah!

Did you know my SCS screen name is a combination of the nicknames I have for my daughters? Peanut is what I used to call my oldest daughter when she was little. She's 19 now so I haven't called her that in a while, but she'll always be my Peanut...no matter how old she gets. Bee is what I call my youngest daughter because her very first Halloween costume was a bumble bee. She's been my "Bee" ever since....maybe it's because she's always "buzzing" around too (3 years old).

Today's featured stamper on SCS is my friend Michelle (sf9erfan)! How totally exciting! Congratulations, Michelle!!!!!!!! Here's her card that I chose to CASE. I kept the same layout, floral theme, and ran my ribbon across the top of the card. I just used different stamps, satin ribbon, changed the colors, and added some crystals.

Playing with new stamps and paper

I have a couple cards today. The first is for today's Inspiration Challenge on SCS, which was a Safari Adventure Pack. I just got my new Timothy the Tiger stamp from High Hopes this week, and got him mounted just last night...so good timing! I followed Jen Del Muro's sketch from last week.

Timothy is colored with Papertrey's Summer Sunrise and Copic markers (warm grey #1, #3, and #7). The flower from Garden of Life was stamped in Summer Sunrise and cut out with scissors. The leaves from GOL were stamped in Old Olive and cut out as well. The flower behind the Much Appreciated sentiment is up on dimensionals.

The image is colored with prisma pencils, and blended with baby oil and stumps. The shadow around the outside of the image was done with Copics (warm grey #1 and #3). The oval Yum! sentiment is up on dimensionals.

Sweet Bethany Angel

Today's Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS was a "Follow the List" Challenge using scraps. Here are the rules for the challenge:

1. Make a square card (any size) ~~ Mine is 4.75" x 4.75"
2. Use only scrap pieces of paper (the base card doesn't have to be a scrap)
3. Use ribbon or fiber scraps
4. Use only ONE other embellishment ~~ Mine is the large pink and black polka dot brad in the center of the scallop
5. Use any colors, stamps, and tools

Bethany is colored with prisma pencils, and then blended with baby oil and stumps. Her wings were highlighted with Warm Grey Copic #1. The scallop sentiment was stamped in Purely Pomegranate, punched out with the SU Scallop Punch, and then I sponged the edges with Blue Bayou.

Sweet RAK from Sandy, and another PTI card

I got happy mail today!!! My friend Sandy (Swap4Fun) not only sent a very pretty card, but she also sent me an assortment of DP paper!! See it in the bottom of the pic? If you get a chance, stop by her fun blog. She's giving away blog candy!!

Sandy, you rock!! I love the bright and cheerful (ha, no pun intended) card, and that was so nice of you to send me this paper. I don't have this paper, but it's funny because it totally matches some ribbon that I bought at Mike's. You may have just inspired me to make a card with it...hopefully this weekend. I also made a second card with my new PTI Garden of Life set. This card also follows today's Ways to Use It Challenge on SCS. The leaves are stamped in Brilliance Pearlescent Lime Green, so it really shimmers. The centers of the flowers are swarovski crystals. The ink used on the flowers and the ribbon is the new Summer Sunrise color by PTI.

All things grow with love

Today's Ways To Use It Challenge....use those scissors! I just got my new Papertrey Ink Garden of Life set and the Berry Sorbet inkpad (which is awesome btw) so I thought I'd use that for today's challenge. Now you'll notice that the background and basic layout looks VERY similar to a card I made on Sunday....that's because I had actually made two bases on Sunday thinking I was going to make another card with the same color scheme....well, I didn't get around to it on Sunday, but I did today!!!

I used my scissors on the three large flowers, all the leaves, AND on the itty bitty centers of the flowers. Ya know the one print of designer paper from Papertrey Ink that has the little circles with flowers??...well, that's what I used in the center of the flower on the left and the one in the middle. The leaves were glued with Tombo right onto the Nestie circles. The large flowers were glued on with dimensionals as were the DP centers.

Seaside Inspiration

I just got this new Crafty Secrets Seaside clear set. I love it!!! My card today follows Roxie's Sketch Challenge #SC173...I just had to flip the sketch so the horizontal image would fit....she said flipping was okay. I double checked! {smile} The theme and colors were inspired by Beate's Inspiration Challenge #10...Beate's picture can be seen below. Are those great colors, or what??!!

I used the shaving cream technique to get the watercolor feel in Beate's inspiration piece. The reinker colors I used in the shaving cream were Marigold Morning, Wild Wasabi, Basic Brown (which I think is actually now hidden with the "friend" sentiment), and Cool Caribbean. The main image was water colored with reinkers and ink pads. The sentiment was glued behind the main image, and then the whole panel was put up on dimensionals.

Gina K Designs Release Party

I went to my first Gina K Designs release party on SCS last night....boy, does that thread move quick! Really fun though, and the new sets (especially the owls) are really cool. Here are a couple cards I made for two of the challenges that were posted last night.

The first is a sketch challenge posted by Carolyn. I JUST got the new Super Mom Naomi stamp and the Kindred Greetings for Her...my very first Gina K sets that I own...and finally got to play with the Naomi stamp. I've never made a card for my aunt for mother's day, but she's always been such a great aunt. Growing up, I was over there all the time hanging out with my cousins. Aunt Kay was like my second mom. I think she'll like the card. She loves blue too.

Featured Stamper ~ Silke!

OMG, I'm so excited for Silke (sparklegirl on SCS)!!...she's the Featured Stamper today!!! You go girl, you so deserve this and I'll bet everyone has a great time CASE'ing you. You have such a great style!

Here's her card that I chose to CASE this morning.

What I kept the same: The layout, butterfly theme, Nesties, shiny ribbon, three brads next to the sentiment, and dimensionals on many layers.

What I changed: The stamp set (0nly because I don't own the Kind Thoughts set), colors, added a strip of chocolate chip behind the Berry Sorbet Ribbon, and paper pierced some holes under the sentiment.

Thanks to Beth for choosing such an amazing stamper....and CONGRATS again to Silke!!!

a RAK, a Reminder, and a Photo Tip find!!

I have a lot to share with you today.

She makes REALLY pretty stuff AND she's a sweetheart..takes the time to write me just about every day to say hi and let me know she's around. I'm so glad to have met her, and maybe we'll even meet one day. Turns out she's also in PA...and not too far from me. Adorable card, Wendy. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Surprise happy mail like this just makes me smile!

Third, I found some really great photo taking tips, thanks for my friend Silke. She rocks, she really does! Totally took time out of her day to help me out. I PM'd her today for some photo advice because lately my pictures have seemed dark and I couldn't consistently get the cool blurred background, which essentially focuses more on the card itself. She gave me some tips on what looks best in the background, suggested that I check the lens (which did help..I think some little fingers got ahold of my camera), AND gave me a link to Kurtis' photo tips off Gina K's blog. Kurtis is THE MAN! Here's the link to his photo tips so you can check them out. The main thing that helped me was to stand back and zoom in. In the past, my photo process was to take numerous pictures in hopes of getting one good one...zooming in, zooming out, standing back, standing closer, changing angles of the card....all in hopes of maybe getting lucky and getting one good pic. I've now taken three good, consistent pictures today thanks to his tips. Just wanted to share with ya!

Summer Afternoon

It's an obsession really.....this Afternoon Tea DP from Stampin' Up AND the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch....seriously! This blue striped pattern with the guava flowers is probably my favorite out of the whole pack of DP and I finally made a card with it. I think the soft blue and white stripes go really well with Summer by the Sea, which I haven't pulled out in a LONG time. The butterflies are just so much fun because the wings bend up so nicely. Just use a glue dot in the center and away you go.

The sketch is from this month's Fan Club Sketch. I cut a piece of 8" x 8" Guava CS and folded it in half to get a 4" x 8" measurement. The image was watercolored with reinkers (that I totally forgot I had..oh my!).

Oh, and I used the reverse side of the blue striped Afternoon Tea DP for the butterflies, so if you look under the wings, you can also see the blue floral stripes. Matchy matchy!

She saw how much I loved it (she said I'm this card's biggest fan...hehe, which I am!) and sent it to me!! WOW! How cool is that??

THANK YOU, Carolyn! I can't believe I have this little beauty in my hands. I didn't think it was possible, but it's even prettier IRL. I love all the different shades of brown on the bear, and I hadn't noticed online but the whole image is outlined in grey! It really makes it stand out. I'm going to have to try that. You've always been such an inspiration to me. Thanks for taking the time to mail me this little guy!!!!

Long Card

....and an excuse to use my new Martha Stewart punch again. Today's Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS was to make a long card (at least 4" x 8") and not use any designer paper. After I made the card, I also realized I was supposed to limit layers. Sorry...this is pretty many layers. Oops!

I cut an 8" x 8" piece of white cardstock and then folded it in half to get the 4" x 8" measurement for the challenge. I like to use Papertrey's White when making a white base because it's very heavy CS and "stands" up better (I think). The swirls are stamped in Versamark on the Saffron panel. I punched the black butterflies and glued them on the white squares with Tombo adhesive. Then I punched the Saffron butterflies and adhered them with a glue dot in the center only so the wings would raise up off the card.

Black Accents

Alllll week I've been oooohing and aaahing over Sharon's black accents...especially the black butterfly punches by Martha Stewart. This past weekend I *almost* bought the punch at AC Moore...held off....but then yesterday gave in and bought it. I knew that was going to happen, LOL! So anyway, here's a card for Sharon's Challenge today, which was to use black accents. My black accents are obviously the black butterflies (with the wings raised), black brads, and the scallop punching at the bottom of the black panel (also a Martha Stewart punch).

I love this Inkadinkadoo image with the butterfly sitting on the bird nest.....also purchased at AC Moore a while ago.

Using Acrylic

Some friends and I have been taking turns sending each other stamped images and challenging each other to use the image on a card. It was my turn to mail out an image to the group, and this tulip wagon is what I chose to send to everyone. After a rough morning at work, I finally got a chance to calm down with some stamping and make my card. Ahhhhh, therapy!

The stamp doesn't have a name or number....sorry! Don't know about you, but I think ALL stamps should have a name. Anyway...

I incorporated the card into today's Ways to Use It Challenge on SCS, which was to use something acrylic on the card. I used an acrylic button in the upper right hand corner of the main image. I also got to use my favorite Afternoon Tea DP again...love it!

Stamps: Unknown Tulip Wagon, Papertrey Mixed Messages

Paper: Chocolate Chip, White, Afternoon Tea DP

Ink: StazOn Timber Brown, Creamy Caramel, Basic Brown, Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava, White Gel Pen, Warm Grey #1 Copic

Accessories: Brown Ribbon, Clear Button, Orange Stickles (center of small flowers)

Technique: Watercoloring with ink pads

Notes: The card measures 5.25" x 5.25" square. Each DP panel is 2.5" x 2.5".
